Art Education Philosophy
My philosophy of art education incorporates an understanding of student learners, pedagogy, artistic development and how each student has a unique and individual learning style. I use a content rich projected-based approach to teaching art education—which includes teaching about art history, art aesthetics, art criticism and studio art. I have developed art curriculum that merges newer theories about pedagogy, emergent curriculum, progressive education, service learning, teaching to diverse learning styles and culturally responsive pedagogies. I have developed curriculum for the K-12 art classroom that uses interdisciplinary methods that enhance learning, creativity, innovation, design thinking skills, and community outreach that meets the needs of a diverse population of students in a rapidly changing technological world.
My philosophy on art education stems from the knowledge that art is an interpretation of our world and portrays human understanding. It cultivates the development of learning more about ourselves and the people around us. It helps students make further application of the content learned in all means of academia. Art and design skills are utilized in every aspect of the professional world. Art education stresses the importance of developing creative problem-solving skills that are critical for success in our rapidly changing economy.
