1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and

    Creativity

  •  Integrating technology in the classroom facilitates and inspires student learning and creativity. I strive to create new and innovative lessons and projects that engage student learning using the most current technology particularly in graphic design. I create lectures using video clips, slides of current art images and movements and live interactive tours of museums around the world. In addition, I demonstrate and model how to create graphic designs and imagery using mixed media programs. It’s my goal to create a lesson plans that continually evolve with technology and remain current with industry standards.

2. Design and Develop Digital Age Learning

    Experiences and Assessments

  •  Designing and developing technological experiences for learning and assessing are an integral part of my lesson planning and teaching strategies. I integrate video clips and slide shows of current art and new techniques before they are even published in books, which gives students access to cutting edge ideas and techniques. When I am demonstrating a lengthy process that is new to most students such as emulsing a screen to start a serigraph, I create a video guide that students can look back on to review the step by step process. Students can also evaluate their work based on the video guide. This is particularly important when each step is dependent on the success of the prior step. I would like to create a technologically interactive tool that students can use to assess their work throughout the process.

3. Model Digital Age Work and Learning

  • As an educator and artist I continually demonstrate and model the use of technology in the classroom for both illustrating and creating works of art. I guide students in using technology to assist in problem solving. For example when I am reducing a full spectrum image to a two color graphic design, I demonstrate how to use photoshop, illustrator and other programs to increase contrast and overlay components at the same time teaching students how to make important design choices and not to depend on technology to be the ultimate creator. My goal is create a multimedia lesson plan which requires students to use multiple programs to create a single composition.

4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and

    Responsibility

  • Teaching responsible and respectful use of technology is a very fluid process. As an educator, it’s my responsibility to demonstrate and model how to use technology responsiblily while understanding technology fluidity. In my studio class, I teach students how search for images on the internet and various other sources that are legal to use, ethics in editing and using images, when an image is “off limits” due to copyright and how to credit sources. It is my goal to create a lesson plan that focuses on students learning to copyright the images they create

5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership

    ISTE.

  • As an artist and educator, I am always interested in the newest design technology and technology that I can use to illustrate imagery. I demonstrate to my students how important it is stay current on the latest technology in the graphic design industry. Participating and demonstrating leadership for technology infusion is an area that I would like to improve on for this standard.
